LAURA DUGAN, CPT

Movement Specialist

Let's eliminate your pain through developing efficient movement.

I am excited to share my passion with you.

As a corrective exercise specialist, I am as passionate today about health and healing as I was when I started my journey some 40 years ago. My main purpose is to provide my clients with
cutting edge therapies to address their pain and discomfort. Some of these therapies include Neurokinetic Therapy, Acitive Isolated Stretching and GOATA.
I laser focus in on the root cause of the pain and not simply where the pain resides. Muscle imbalance will create a cascade of movement compensation patterns that will result in both acute
and chronic pain.
Upon completion of a full assessment with muscle testing I will identify these compensation patterns and provide corrective exercises to restore balance, with the ultimate goal being immediate and permanent pain relief. From the professional athlete to the weekend warrior as well as the elderly, I know my unique approach works.

I look forward to leading you back to functional
and efficient movement.

NEUROKINETIC THERAPY

Neurokinetic therapy (NKT) works to reroute dysfunctional movement patterns. When injury has occurred, the brain automatically creates compensations to your movement patterns. Your brain will send signals to "turn off" certain muscles while forcing other muscles to become overworked. These neuromuscular compensations lead to the dysfunctional movement and eventually pain.During an NKT session, manual muscle testing will be completed to discover which compensations have occurred. Once these are identified, individualized corrective exercises will be provided to help undo the dysfunctional pattern and bring your muscular system back into balance.

ACTIVE-ISOLATED STRETCHING

Acitve Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a scientifically designed flexibility system backed by 40 years of research and practice by Aaron Mattes, MS, RKT, LMT.The traditional form of stretching is known as static stretching, where a specific position is held for 60 seconds of more. This has been found to potentially decrease blood flow and potentially induce injury. With active isolated stretching each position is held for no more than 2 seconds and repeated several times. This promotes blood flow as well as allowing the target muscle to achieve optimal lengthening.

BENEFITS OF AIS:

Increase mobility and flexibility: Reduces and eliminates tight muscles and stiff jointsIncrease circulation: Stimulates circulation and lymph drainage which helps eliminate metabolic wastePromote faster recovery: Improves oxygenation and nutrition to the myofascial structure, promoting growth and repairPrevent injuries: Improves the function of muscles, tendons and ligaments, which reduces the risk of muscular strain and tearRelieve Pain: 80% of back pain is due to mechanical dysfunction and can be relieved through body re-alignment and posture correction
